About Mesa Vista

The Cabin

Mesa Vista is a small secluded cabin located in Big Bend Valley outside Terlingua, Texas.

Named for the stunning view of 9 Point Mesa, it is surrounded by mountains and mesas; Red Bluff, Black Hill, The Christmas Mountains, Agua Fria, Santiago Peak and in the distance, the Chisos Mountains.

Inside the cabin, there is a queen-sized bed with memory foam mattress, with pillows, sheets, and blankets, and two chairs with a small table.  There are two lofts. One has another queen-sized mattress with no sheets, etc., perfect for a sleeping bag.  The other loft is for storage.

On the porch, facing the mountains, are two comfy chairs.  There is also a small solar light installed on the porch which has 3 levels of brightness- or you can turn it completely off.

There is an outdoor composting toilet and shower.

We provide a 2-burner camp stove for cooking and some bottled water. We recommend you bring water and keep it with you wherever you go out here.

Unplug. You’ll be off the grid.   There is no cell service, but don’t worry- Betsy and I live next door on the adjoining property and we’ve got a land-line phone and internet and a satellite phone in case of emergency.

UPDATE- as of 3/26/17 we have wireless internet at MesaVista.  You don’t have to use it, but it’s there if you want it.

There’s a small store just down the road that has food, supplies, beer and wine, and internet.

About Betsy and Pat

Mesa Vista is owned by Betsy Blaydes and Pat O’Bryan.

We moved out here about four years ago from Wimberley, Texas after Betsy retired and the kids had all left home.

Betsy’s a happy mom and grandma who retired from a career as a speech pathologist working in public schools in Central Texas.

She enjoys British comedies and drama and books by authors like Pema Chodron.

I’m a recovering musician and best-selling author. After over four decades as a a touring and recording performer, I now play gigs locally occasionally. I have a recording studio here at our cabin, and produce music for videos, TV and film, I also produce CDs for local artists and music videos.

My son, daughter and grand-daughter all live in Chicago, which I think is very odd. We chat on Facebook a lot.

Betsy and I are both officers in the Big Bend Citizens Alliance, a local 501.c.3 non-profit that supports charitable projects in the Big Bend. You can find out more about that HERE.
